How to get creative when you can't even

Work, work, work, but what happens when the creative juices are not flowing? I like to instead of taking that second nap for the day, just work on something random. However working randomly can be quite difficult. You have to have some thoughts running through your mind. Now you’re thinking about the fact that you can’t think of anything and you’re stuck in a loop. I suggest you use a random word generator and create something around that word kind of like a word prompt that guides you into thinking imaginatively again.

But here you are again staring at a clean white sheet of paper feeling nervous because you know you are about to ruin it. But isn’t art is just about ruining perfectly good paper in the best and most imaginative way? It may or may not end up as scrap paper. But that is the start!

The true and recommended method by professionals is to silence those thoughts put on some music to drown them out to clear self doubts. Now take the paper and prepare the surface to be worked on. Like a perfect recipe in the kitchen we will add a base coat of colour in your medium of choice and create a backdrop for your new creation. It’s often we make excuses on why we can’t move forward with a task and what we actually lack. What are these lies our brain comes up with creating barriers. It’s the ‘guy’ an inadequate pronoun to distinguish your brain but let’s move on. The ‘guy’ that shows up on time, decides you can’t do this and talks you out of doing things you should be accomplishing. Fear crops up without you knowing and most certainly you’ve moved onto something else.

A waste of time having those distracting thoughts. The key to silence the distracting chatter is to just do without hesitation. When you say you can’t, you actually can. Do!
